Artists, Let’s Talk About AI

Lately, it feels like AI is everywhere. It's in our news feeds, our workplaces, our creative tools, and increasingly, our conversations. And it's bringing up a lot of different feelings: curiosity, excitement, skepticism, fear, frustration, hope.

The question we keep hearing from artists: What does this mean for my practice?

Should I be using AI? Should I avoid it? Is it changing how we create? What happens to artistic labor in a world where machines can generate images, text, music, and code? And how do we make sense of all of this when the technology seems to be evolving faster than anyone can keep up with it?

As artists and creative producers who actively engage with AI, we don't have definitive answers. We have questions (and fears) too.

This gathering is an opportunity to think through all of it together.

Consciously Produced, in collaboration with Lauren Mushro (@anatomyofai), is launching a series of small, experimental conversations for artists, creators, researchers, and anyone interested in exploring the relationship between art and artificial intelligence. We hope these conversations will grow into a broader community that includes workshops, panels, guest speakers, and other opportunities for collective learning.

Join us on June 29 at 6:00 PM ET or July 22 at 4:00 PM ET to share ideas, ask questions, voice concerns, exchange resources, or just listen in.

This is a free/donation-based event.

No expertise is required. No need to use AI to participate. Just bring your creative self!

Consciously Produced Community Agreements

Our gatherings are designed as welcoming, low-pressure spaces for curiosity, conversation, and collective learning. We do not expect everyone to arrive with the same knowledge, experience, or perspective. We do ask that everyone help create a space where meaningful dialogue is possible.

These are a few of the values we bring to every live and digital gathering we produce. Thank you for helping us uphold them throughout the event.

  • Curiosity Over Expertise: You do not need to be an expert to participate. Curiosity, openness, and a willingness to learn are more than enough.

  • Questions Are Welcome: There is no shame in not knowing. Ask the question. Someone else is probably wondering the same thing. At the same time, be mindful of the space you take up and help make room for others to contribute, learn, and be heard.

  • Disagreement Is Allowed: We may not all arrive at the same conclusions. Thoughtful disagreement is part of the learning process. Please engage with one another respectfully, especially with discussing topics that may feel personal, challenging, or emotionally charged.

  • There Is Never Pressure to Disclose: You are never required to share personal information, creative processes, tools, workflows, or experiences beyond what feels comfortable.

  • Make Space for Others: Be mindful of how much space you take up in conversation. Leave room for different voices, experiences, and ways of participating.

  • Respect Confidentiality: Stories and experiences shared within the gathering should stay within the gathering unless explicit permission is given to share them elsewhere.

  • Take Care of Yourself: Step away, take a break, go to the bathroom, or pass on a question if needed. Participation is always invitational, not obligatory.

Conversations about AI often move quickly. This gathering is an invitation to slow down, ask better questions, and explore ideas together. Thank you for approaching this conversation with curiosity, care, and respect for the people sharing it with you.
